Origin: a root word
TDNT entry: 13:34,6
Part(s) of speech: Verb
Strong's Definition: A primary verb; tostay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): - abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.

Starting a thing is one. Continuing it is another. Finishing it is key.
When you begin a thing, it is because you for see an end. Same with God.

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

In our passage, we have seen that the end of our salvation here on earth is FRUITFULNESS.

Salvation makes you 'clean'. See...

John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

See where Jesus said it again...

 Jn 13:10 — Jn 13:11
Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
Jesus called Judas; the son of perdition.

 John 17:12
While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
The only other time you will find that in scriptures, it was refered to the anti Christ.

2Th 2:3 — 2Th 2:4
Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

So am I saying some will not fall away? Oh yes they will. But they are 'SONS OF PERDITION'. For the Antichrist (chief son of perdition) to be revealed.

Satan fell from heaven, the Antichrist will fall from the Church.

Satan left with a third of the angels, the Antichrist will not fall alone. But just take note, they are sons of perdition.

Just like God did not stop satan from falling or redeem satan after he fell. Just like Jesus did not stop or pray Judas away from falling. No one will be able to stop the Antichrist and the Fallers from falling. Not your preaching.

Jo 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away:
Does not been he cuts off.

Take away means
Thayer Definition:
to raise up, elevate, lift upto raise from the ground, take up: stones; to raise upwards, elevate, lift up: the hand

It can mean cut off. But the usual practise with vinedressers is to elevate the branch so it can be positioned for fruitfulness.

God's end in mind for you as a believer in Christ is to be fruitful.
That is why you must abide.

How do you abide?

 1. Abide in Christ.
Abiding in Christ means abiding in Grace. Abiding in the Cross. Abiding in the Finished work of Christ.

Galatians 5:4
Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Gal 1:6 — Gal 1:9
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Gal 2:20 — Gal 2:21
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

2. Abiding in the Spirit.

 Gal 3:1 — Gal 3:4
3 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.

Gal 5:16 — Gal 5:18
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
The Holy Spirit is our Guide into the Truth. It pays to abide in Him.

 Jn 16:13 — Jn 16:14
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

3. Abiding in Faith.

 Gal 3:
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

How did you get saved? Faith.
How will you stay saved? Faith.

Romans 1:17
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

4. Abiding in the Word.

We abide in Gid's word by meditation.

Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

Psa 1:1 — Psa 1:3
Psalms
1 Blessed is the man
that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,
nor standeth in the way of sinners,
nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord;
and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
that bringeth forth his fruit in his season;
his leaf also shall not wither;
and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Colossians 3:16
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

5. Abiding in Love.

This is the most reliable evidence or fruit of a believer. In fact, this is the all encompassing fruitfulness Jesus is talking about in John 15.

Jn 15:8 — Jn 15:14
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Gal 5:22 — Gal 5:26
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Gal 5:13 — Gal 5:15
For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.

Jn 13:34 — Jn 13:35
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
His love fills our heart when we abide in His presence.

Romans 5:5
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
