THE ANOINTING

LORD, do not just teach me about Anointing. LORD, ANOINT ME!

In Christianity, somethings are better experienced than explained.

1Jo 1:1
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
(KJV)

Jn 1:14
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(KJV)

The Word must become flesh or it is just theory; an academic exercise.

Thank God for the ministry of Teaching in the Church, but you cannot effectively teach what you have not experienced; and you cannot effectively understand what you have not experience.

I believe that the Holy Spirit is the best teacher- not experience; but if you do not experience the Holy Spirit, how can He teach you? If you have not encountered the Word of God, how can you know it?

So LORD, let me experience your Anointing from today in Jesus' name. Amen.

There is no way you can comprehend the workings of the anointing unless you are anointed.

What is Anointing?

ceremonially confer divine or holy office upon (a priest or monarch) by smearing or rubbing with oil.

"Samuel anointed him king"

synonyms:consecrate, sanctify, bless, ordain,hallow

The origin of anointing was from a practice of shepherds. Lice and other insects would often get into the wool of sheep, and when they got near the sheep's head, they could burrow into the sheep's ears and kill the sheep. So, ancient shepherds poured oil on the sheep's head. This made the wool slippery, making it impossible for insects to get near the sheep's ears because the insects would slide off. From this, anointing became symbolic of blessing, protection, and empowerment.

The New Testament Greek words for “anoint” are chrio, which means “to smear or rub with oil” and, by implication, “to consecrate for office or religious service”; andaleipho, which means “to anoint.” In Bible times, people were anointed with oil to signify God’s blessing or call on that person’s life (Exodus 29:7;Exodus 40:9;2 Kings 9:6;Ecclesiastes 9:8;James 5:14). A person was anointed for a special purpose—to be a king, to be a prophet, to be a builder, etc. There is nothing wrong with anointing a person with oil today. We just have to make sure that the purpose of anointing is in agreement with Scripture. Anointing should not be viewed as a "magic potion." The oil itself does not have any power. It is only God who can anoint a person for a specific purpose. If we use oil, it is only a symbol of what God is doing.

ANOINTING
Anointing is the conferment or entrusting of power upon a man by God.

A police man is entrusted with a gun and some bullets. He may give account after use, but he is entitled to use them. He is trusted to administer the bullets. He has the right to shoot. Nobody thinks it strange to see a police man with his gun. This is who the anointed is.

It is important that the anointed be trusted enough to use the anointing. Would the government give such right to weapons to a man they cannot trust his sanity?

YOU CANNOT SUBSTITUTE THE ANOINTING.

A School of Thought in the Church relegates the anointing. They argue that the anointing cannot be reproduced like the Word of God can. But the anointing can be transfered. And if you are not anointed, the word of God cannot do much for you and through you.

Jesus Christ is the Word of God personified. But He was anointed.

Act 10:38
38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power:who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
(KJV)

If Jesus needed the anointing, do not excuse it away from your own experience.

Jesus inaugurated His ministry while on earth with these words.

Luk 4:16-21
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up:and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
(KJV)

From the book of Isaiah 61.

Isa 61:1-3
Chapter 61
1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me;
because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek;
he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
and the day of vengeance of our God;
to comfort all that mourn;
3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion,
to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
that they might be called trees of righteousness,
the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
(KJV)

DOES GOD WANT US TO BE ANOINTED ?

No doubt.

1Jo 2:27
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you...

Psa 105:12-15
12 When they were but a few men in number;
yea, very few, and strangers in it.
13 When they went from one nation to another,
from one kingdom to another people;
14 He suffered no man to do them wrong:
yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;
15 Saying, Touch not mine anointed,
and do my prophets no harm.
(KJV)

God said this concerning the church in the wilderness; but much more is He saying this concerning the Church in this world and age- the body of Christ?

HOW TO RECEIVE THE ANOINTING

1. Be born again. Become saved by Christ Jesus.

Christ means the 'Messiah' or 'Anointed and His anointing'. So if you are saved by Christ you are entitled to His anointing.

Jn 3:3-7
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
(KJV)

That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. That which is born of the Spirit of God is anointed, no doubt.

In spiritual fact, when you become saved by Christ Jesus, you become an enigma to the devil and his kingdom. That is the anointing, but very many Christians do not know how to take advantage of this especially at the early times of salvation.

Jn 3:8
8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth:so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
(KJV)

1Jo 5:4-5
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world:and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
(KJV)

1Jo 5:18-19
18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.
(KJV)

You are an entity aside from the world. You are an impregnable institution to the world, only you did not realise it.

1Jo 4:4
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them:because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
(KJV).

Okay let us say the capacity for the anointing is built in you at the point of salvation. But in actuality, a resident anointing is in you at salvation.

2. Be baptised in the Holy Ghost. Be filled with the Holy Spirit.

There are ordinances or practices or traditions even in the New Testament. Examples are Water Baptism, The Lord's Supper, Fellowshipping with the brethren, and Holy Ghost baptism among others.

There is an exercise of being baptised with the Holy Ghost, distinct and separate from Water baptism.

Mat 3:11
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance:but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear:he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
(KJV)

Mat 3:16
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water:and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
(KJV)

Act 10:37-38
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power:who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
(KJV)

Act 1:8
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you:and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
(KJV)

Act 19:2-6
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
(KJV)

When you get baptised with the Holy Ghost, you are literaly possessed by a Ghost- the Holy Ghost. Just imagine a person you know being possessed by a ghost, that is what happens at the point of being baptised with the Holy Ghost.

You are possessed by the Ghost Jesus gave up on the cross. We allow too much semantics to water down our gospel. Whatever happened to a people and made them speak and behave strangely such that they were taken for drunks ? Whatever fills you possesses you. Ask alcohol.

Jn 19:30
30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished:and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
(KJV)

Remember the Holy Spirit could not operate in this dimension of the Holy Ghost until Jesus died.

Jn 7:37-39
37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. 39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive:for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
(KJV)

The very Spirit that Jesus possessed while on earth was discharged and made available to us. Glory be to God Most High!

This is the anointing. Power is made available. The baptism of the Holy Ghost enrolls you into the Training School of the Spirit. Salvation admits you into the Force, Holy Ghost Baptism enrols you into the Force's Training School.

After being baptised with the Holy Ghost, certain tools are delivered at your disposal to train with at the discretion of the Holy Spirit.

1Co 12:7-11
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
(KJV)

As you master these tools, you grow in the anointing.

3. Fasting.

No amount of revelation can relegate fasting in the New Testament. Fasting is basically a spiritual principle. All religions and all human endevours with spiritual affliations recognise the potency of fasting.

Jesus Christ fasted. And must have fasted often.

Mat 4:1-2
Chapter 4
1 Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. 2 And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
(KJV)

Luk 4:1-2
Chapter 4
1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing:and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.
(KJV)

Fasting as it relates to food particularly. God is eager to train His people that man does not live by food alone. Food feeds the body, there must be ways to feed the spirit too. And one sure way is periodic fastings.

Jn 4:30-33
30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.
31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. 33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?
(KJV)

He admonished us to fast often too.

Mat 6:16-18
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance:for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; 18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret:and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
(KJV)

In fact, you should do it so often that nobody can tell when and when you are not fasting. A fasted life. Not that when you begin to go lean, we know you are on the mount. No.

Why is fasting so important as regards the anointing?

1. Fasting releases the power of the Spirit. Fasting connects your own spirit to the Holy Spirit more effectively.

Jesus Christ our perfect Example fasted shortly before He commenced His minstry and announced the anointing while on earth. Mat 4. Luk 4.

These words were written by the Holy Spirit shortly after He ended the fast.

Luk 4:14
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee:and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
(KJV)

2. Fasting awakens or sharpens your spiritual consciousness. Fasting connects you to the Holy Spirit as if Jesus Christ is right by your side.

Mar 2:18-21
18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees used to fast:and they come and say unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not? 19 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then shall they fast in those days. 21 No man also seweth a piece of new cloth on an old garment:else the new piece that filled it up taketh away from the old, and the rent is made worse.
(KJV)

The other religions wondered at Jesus and His disciples. Spiritual people ought to fast, they must have reasoned. And Jesus did not disagree with them. He only said there was no point to look for what is already beside you. Amen.

4. Study and know the Scripture.

We cannot bypass the study of Scriptures in our quest for the anointing. One primary function of the Holy Ghost in our lives is to remind us of God's words. You must have studied for you to be so reminded.

Jn 14:26
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(KJV)

The Holy Ghost will not teach us outside the Scriptures. We expand the scope and horizon of the operations of the anointing in our lives when we know God's words.

1Jo 2:27
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you:but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
(KJV)

The Holy Ghost feels at home wherever the word of God abounds.

Jn 14:23-24
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words:and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings:and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
(KJV)

The Holy Ghost responds to the words of God.

Jn 15:7
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
(KJV)

The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of truth, the Scriptures is the word of truth.

Jn 14:17
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him:but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
(KJV)

2Ti 2:15
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
(KJV)

The word of God keeps the anointing from being corrupted.

1Jo 4:6
6 We are of God:he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
(KJV)

The Word of keeps the Spirit from shame.

Smith Wigglesworth we were told knew only Scriptures. But it was enough to keep the anointing. Obadare was blind but knew Scriptures. The Scriptures feed the Anointing. No anointing can set the Scriptures aside. None.

The Scriptures provide the syllabus for every anointing and the anointed.

Heb 10:7
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
(KJV)

The Spirit acts on God's words.

Ezk 2:1-2
Chapter 2
1 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee. 2 And the spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet, that I heard him that spake unto me.
(KJV)

Scriptures jump start or quickens the anointing.
The scriptures provides the fuel for the anointing.

Ezk 3:1-2
Chapter 3
1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat this roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.
(KJV)

It is sufficient contact between the Word and the Spirit that ignites fire and sparks up an explosion in the spirit.

Gen 1:2-3
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light:and there was light.
(KJV)

When you have the Word and the Holy Ghost in you, you are in allignment with Heaven. So you make impact on the earth.

1Jo 5:7
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost:and these three are one.
(KJV)
Weewwww
Scriptures say the Word of God 33w2is powerful!

Heb 4:12-13
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight:but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
(KJV)

Scriptures say the Word of God is the Sword *weapon* of the Spirit.

Eph 6:17
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
(KJV)

Enough said.

5. Obedience maximises the anointing.

When God gives an instruction and you follow through, He is committed to backing you up.

Mat 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.w
(KJV)

Oranmonisefaiyatii

For instance, Evangelism unleashes power. If you evangelises regularly, you will see God in action most of the times. For God must confirm His words.

Mar 16:20
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
(KJV)

That anointing is not for you primarily. It is for others. So when you reach out to them, you open yourself up for God's u7j and the operations of the anointing.

Luk 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at li9i0kn

berty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
(KJV)

You are anointed to preach. So preach for the anointing to work. Period.

1Co 9:16
16 For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of:for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!
(KJV)

2Ti 4:2-4
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
(KJV)

Halleluyah!

So, Obedience is key to the anointing.

6. Impartation.

This is the transfer of some portion of an anointing from one person to another. This is the one most commonly sought after.

2Ki 2:9-10
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me. 10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing:nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
(KJV)

It does not come as easily as many assume.

God must be involved. The man also must be involved.

2Ki 2:15
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
(KJV)

Rom 1:11
11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;
(KJV)

So it is transferable. But why get a duplicate when you can get the original?

For me, it should be deemphasized in the body of Christ. We should lead all believers to the ultimate source of the anointing which is Christ Himself. Amen.
